WRTV is always looking for new information to pass along to you all regarding up and coming parts and products that improve overall drivability and performance of your cars. We have done it again by going to ACT or Advanced Clutch Technologies to see what they have in store for the public this year. We talk to Daryl Sampson, Sales and Marketing Manager for ACT for the details.
Before telling us what ACT has in store for the year 2008, Daryl gives us a heads up as to what is coming up within the next decade in the realm of clutches. According to Daryl, the twin clutch setup features on the Nissan GT-R an other high performance machines is what is going to take the place of the standard single clutch in the future. The double clutch utilizes two clutches that work similarly to an automatic transmission, and shift using paddles like the ones used in F1 racing.
However, before manufacturers can mass produce transmissions like this they need to engineer them to handle the ever increasing power numbers made by today's engines.
New for 2008 is a clutch for the 5.7 L 346 cubic inch GM LS1 V8 that produces anywhere from 300 to 350 horsepower, as well as a clutch for the LS2 which serves as the base engine for the new generation Corvette and makes 400 horsepower. In keeping with American iron, ACT has a new clutch for the 4.6 L Mustang that will handle anything you throw at it and be anything we mean up to 900 lb feet of torque. For Mitsubishi lovers, a new clutch system for the Evo Ten GSR is rolling off the line sometime in the first quarter of 2008. If older cars are what you like, 10 inch and 11 inch clutch setups are available for street or strip applications. ACT even markets to diesel lovers with its kits for the 7.3 L Ford PowerStroke V8 diesel and the Dodge Cummins in both 5 and 6 speeds.
Through commitment to engineering and excellence, ACT ensures that when you buy a clutch from them that you get the best clutch you can that can handle any engine upgrade accordingly. Enjoy.
